Charles M. Holley, Jr.

Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Walmart

Charles retired from Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. January 31, 2016 after more than 21 years with the company. From November 30, 2010 until his retirement, Charles was the executive vice president and chief financial officer for Walmart, responsible for accounting and control, corporate strategy and development, business planning and analysis, internal auditing, investor relations, treasury, tax, and several other key areas of the company. He had over 6,000 associates around the world under him in the finance function. Charles also served on the Walmart executive committee, the Walmart real estate committee, the compliance and governance committee and chaired the company’s executive finance committee.

Prior to being appointed CFO, Charles had served a number of key executive positions at Walmart including EVP Finance and Treasurer, SVP Corporate Controller and SVP CFO of Walmart’s international segment.

While at Walmart, Charles helped lead the company’s strategy in integrating its physical stores with its online ecommerce business. He was also instrumental in growing Walmart’s footprint around the world. The company now has operations in over 27 countries with revenue over $130 billion. In addition, while CFO, Walmart increased their dividend over 50%, initiated over $40 billion in share repurchases all while maintaining a “AA” credit rating.

Before joining Walmart, Charles worked for Tandy Corporation as managing director for its European Memorex consumer product division (Memtek International) and served as director of finance for its international operations. He also spent more than 10 years with Ernst & Young.

Charles served as a member of several financial organizations, including Financial Executives International, the CFO Board Academy and The Conference Board Council of Financial Executives.  He serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board for the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Texas Presidents’ Development Board as well as The University of Texas system Chancellor’s Council.

Also an active volunteer, Charles is a board member for the Cancer Challenge of Northwest Arkansas and served on the national board of trustees for The First Tee.  He was awarded the 2013 Outstanding Corporate Champion award by the McCombs School of Business.

Charles currently serves as a senior advisor for Deloitte’s CFO program as well as a CFO in Residence where he assists Deloitte as the pre-eminent advisor to CFO’s.

Charles received his BBA in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin and earned his MBA in finance at the University of Houston. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
